Blogs like the BG will frequently use hyperbole – to emphasise or to make a point.
The BG has “a lot of form” when it comes to the use of hyperbole.
Occasionally – and this is a rarity – a situation arises where using hyperbole does not appear as such but actually can be said to be a common sense and accurate description.
When it comes to this recent BBC report (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61251698) on “Looney Liz”, the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Secretary one is taken aback with the utter stupidity of the woman!
If this ridiculous woman has her way – and unfortunately some Tory MP’s have decided to act like lemmings and support her – this can only make the situation very, very very much worse and IF the Russians do not break through Ukrainian lines in the east and “Looney Liz” succeeds in having the British Army’s tanks stationed in Poland to enable Poland’s Soviet era tanks to go to Ukraine we could indeed see Putin use a tactical nuclear weapon in a demonstration demand.
Just where he will choose to burst the weapon is the question.
Using it in Ukraine will incur the wrath of China as the grain would be contaminated and be unsaleable. 300 nautical miles east of Edinburgh and 324 nautical miles east of The Hague in the middle of the North Sea is a potential area. That is significantly east south east of the UK’s offshore oil assets.
Were Putin to do this the reaction across Western Europe would be severe. We would very very quickly see mass CND type demonstrations and much attendant civil disobedience. Those BG Readers who remember the mass CND protests of the 1950s and 1960s and also the Greenham Common protests of the 1980s “……’aint seen nothing yet!”
Faced with the very realistic prospect of a horrible early death, hundreds of thousands of young people will take to the streets.
Politically this represents a existential threat to the mainstream political parties. You see, we saw it in the EU referendum back in June 2016. The FACT that traditionally it is the elderly who turn out to vote and the young who can’t be bothered. It is a FACT that the Remain campaign were only too well aware of this! They worked hard – very hard – to get their vote out. They did splendidly – but it was not quite enough!
Faced with the immediately prospect of nuclear war the youngsters will loose all reticence about voting! Such will be the impact on the British political system, Boris the Buffoon and Looney Liz will be unable to stop a General Election. Expect the Green Party to really come into it’s own!
The thing about the First Past the Post system is that when a political earthquake happens the system can actually favour the insurgent political force!
The other thing we can consider is direct involvement of members of the Royal Family.
Although the Royals are outside the political arena, they – like many non political commercial firms – regularly commission opinion polls to discover what the public are thinking and who is and who is not in and out of favour.
HRH The Prince of Wales is an enthusiastic environmentalist of long standing. If his advisers report that the Greens could sweep to power were an election called he could very well persuade his mother to sack the government and dissolve Parliament!
On the cusp of Armageddon he would have little to loose and everything to gain!
