Boris Johnson: The best man (there) for the job!

I’ve stated before that the BG is not a religious blog and it is not. However, it is a current affairs blog and sometimes religious happenings bring about a mention on the blog. Today’s post is such an example.

During the thanksgiving service for Her Majesty’s long reign in St. Paul’s cathedral this morning, David Dimbleby who had come out of retirement for the occasion commented (correctly) that insofar as Royal ceremonies in involving the Palace are concerned, nothing happens without direction and planning.

Thus we learned that the Duke of York had gone down with a bout of Covidus diplomaticus. We also bore witness to The Right Honourable Boris Johnson, Prime Minister and the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip give the New Testament reading, Philippians 4. 4-9 – herewith below:

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Now I know with absolute certainty of three people in the village where I live who will – IF they watched the broadcast on TV – will loose no time at all in informing me that Mr Johnson was the absolute worst choice for the reading! I will respond thus; “On the contrary, it was an inspired choice which had to have the approval of HM herself remember.”

You see, HM is a Christian and Christians believe that it is only through Jesus Christ (who suffered and died on the cross and rose again) that a person can gain everlasting life. That it is impossible to gain everlasting life through a life of good actions, thoughts and works. This because we are all sinners and all fall far short of the standard necessary.

As the words of the communion service state; “We were not fit even to gather the crumbs form under your table…..” (Historical note: At the time dogs were allowed under the table).

In the words of the cartoon: That’s All (for today) Folks!!!
