Sixty-eight years ago today in 1954 USA carried out an atmospheric nuclear test at Bikini Island in the Pacific Ocean.
At twenty five minutes after midnight on 7th June 1931, the Dogger Bank earthquake took place below the bank, measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale and was the largest earthquake ever recorded in the United Kingdom. Its hypo-centre was at a depth that was just over 14 miles beneath the bank, and the quake was felt in countries all around the North Sea, causing damage across eastern England.
Dogger Bank has traditionally been known as an area rich in fish. Seafarers and those members of the general public who listen to the shipping [weather] forecast know “Dogger” as one of the areas mentioned.
After ninety one years, the Dogger Bank earthquake has lapsed from the public’s memory as few people are alive to remember it.
Absolutely nobody – apart from those who claim to have lived past lives – remember a cataclysm that MIGHT have taken place there in around 6,200BC. There is a recent hypothesis suggesting that around 6,200BC much of the remaining coastal land of Doggerland was flooded by a tsunami caused by a submarine landslide off the coast of Norway known as the Storegga Slide. This suggests that the Storegga Slide tsunami would have had a catastrophic impact on the contemporary coastal Mesolithic population.

I never thought I’d type this words, but I very much fear that Mr Rosenberg might be correct!
Yesterday at morning service the subject of Ukraine came up and the congregation were talking about it. During the service the vicar did what he does nowadays and asked the congregation for suggestions for the prayers. Ukraine came up inevitably. I don’t normally make a contribution, but I did this time and suggested that we ask the Almighty to use his Infinite Wisdom to ensure that all those in authority all sides do not behave recklessly.
That afternoon came the news that can well be described as reckless. Bursting a tactical nuclear munition in the middle of the North Sea equidistant between Britain and Denmark and Holland and Norway would be beyond reckless!
Were such an act to take place the weapon would likely be a P-800 Oniks supersonic anti-ship missiles (range 500 miles), understood to be nuclear-capable. The P-800 is carried on the latest Yasen class nuclear submarines.
Let us ALL hope the peace talks taking place bear fruit!
