One of my readers bemoans my recent (relative to the age of my blog) change in editorial stance on the subject of Aliens, ETs, Little Green Men, UFOs etc. etc.
They were upset (on my behalf) for the tanking of my viewing figures from the heights when the blog was mainly a source of Climate-Realist and Euro-Realist posts! They implored me to desist from my lunacy! “Readers do not want to read about aliens and UFOs!” “They will regard such posts as the ravings of a lunatic!”
I replied that the BG was my blog and I would post what I wanted to post regardless.
Those readers who still surf onto this blog will recall that I have commented upon the interstellar object, 3iATLAS. That it appears to be either a wholly artificial creation or a natural object (such as an asteroid) that has been adapted/converted into a space vehicle.
After 3iATLAS passed it’s perihelion and did NOT take up a retrograde orbit 1.36 AU from the Sun – as I suggested it MIGHT – there have been those who have smiled knowingly suggesting that I have been proved to be just like all the other “tin foil hat wearing nutjobs”!

During it’s passage behind the Sun, 3iATLAS took this opportunity afforded by the Sun’s gravity at perihelion to make a course change – to bring it marginally within Jupiter’s Hill radius – thus to afford it the opportunity to fully decelerate to insert itself into the orbit of Jupiter.
There would be a clear logic to this decision. A logic that we humans follow. Many readers will have watched one type of programme the BBC excels at making – programmes about wildlife. When such as Lord Attenborough take up a position to observe (and film) wild animals they ALWAYS keep a proper distance! This is not only (with such as with crocodiles and lions) to keep a safe distance but also a practical observational measure for it the observation position is too close these wild animals will be disturbed and react – either by moving further away OR by aggressively moving towards the broadcaster’s position.
The aliens (be they artificial, biological or a combination of both) may have assessed their situation and have determined that taking up a Jovian Lagrange point would be the most prudent action – insofar as preparation for a possible “First Contact” with humanity – as at this point in the Solar System they will not be regarded as threatening – whereas my earlier postulation of a 1.36 AU retrograde orbit very much could be construed as a potential danger.
A remote “First Contact” that could involve initial radio communication could be followed by humanity constructing a manned space vehicle to traverse the distance from Earth to Jupiter. Whilst this would be a technological challenge, our technology has advanced to a point where this would be practical – and very expensive. This “Second Contact” would presumably be an international effort – although I can see the Trump administration deeming this an excellent opportunity for a wholly US project!
