The quote “No possession is gratifying without a companion” (Lat., Nullius boni sine sociis jucunda possessio est.) is from Seneca’s Epistoloe Ad Lucilium (VI).
The Epistoloe Ad Lucilium (VI) formed part of the Epistulae morales ad Lucilium (Latin for moral letters to Lucilius), a collection of 124 letters which were written by the Roman philosopher and moralist Seneca (Lucius Annaeus Seneca). They are addressed to Lucilius, the then procurator of Sicily.
The above quotation might cross the minds of the two politicians above. They are of course Angela Eagle and Grant Shapps. Ms Eagle glories under the title as “Chair” of the National Executive Committee. She can therefore be described as Greg Shapp’s opposite number for Mr Shapps is Chairman of the Conservative Party. These are the two politicians who will end up carrying the can for their respective parties results in the May 2015 General Election.
These two are therefore focusing on the by election in Clacton on Sea where new UKIP member Douglas Carswell is hoping to be returned to Parliament.
Now of course Ms Eagle is championing her party’s candidate a Mr Tim Young. Mr Young is the Leader of the Labour group on Colchester Council and is portfolio holder for planning, community safety and culture.
Now Ms Eagle will of course openly champion Mr Young’s cause. Mr Young however will have a secret supporter. One no less than Mr Shapps himself. Now of course Mr Shapps will be openly supporting Mr Giles Watling – the Tories candidate. However, Mr Shapps will be hoping that Mr Young is sent as Labour’s representative for Clacton.
Why? Has Mr Shapps had a sudden Damascene conversion and now espouses Clause Four Socialism? Of course not! What Mr Shapps and the rest of the Tories – with the obvious exception of Mr Watling who we assume wants to become Clacton’s MP – is for Labour to win so they can proclaim from the rooftops that: “A vote for UKIP is a vote for Labour.” or as Cameron crudely put it; “Go to bed with Nigel and wake up with Ed.”
This then will be the Tory’s main argument for voting Tory and not UKIP.
This is BAD but also GOOD for UKIP.
It undoubtedly BAD for UKIP for it is probably true. Many UKIP supporters reading this will roar NO! A stunning election victory for UKIP in the Heywood and Middleton by-election will confound this, but present indications indicated a Labour victory with a strong performance by UKIP. Should UKIP loose to Labour in Clacton and fail to win in Heywood and Middleton as the Tories will claim these results as evidence.
OK then, what can be GOOD about this? We hear you ask.
This: The Tory attack on UKIP will be purely focused on this aspect. There will be little or no attempt to attack UKIP on its policies. That will be left to Labour who will continue with their Big Lie that UKIP wish charge patients for seeing their GP.
The Big Lie (German: Große Lüge) was the expression coined by the late and unlamented Adolf Hitler. Hitler advocated the use of a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe it that someone; “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.”
Those Global Warmists who are aware of the falseness of their claims are also using Hitler’s technique – but that is another matter.
This of course exposes the desultory nature of British political campaigning today. The Tories message to voters will be this: “Vote for us. OK, you don’t like us, but then, if you don’t vote for us, you’ll get someone you dislike even more!”
This is the tactic of extortionists through the ages.
And then these treasonous imbeciles wonder why the British People have lost faith in their politicians? That is akin to a convicted burglar wondering why people won’t trust him with their possessions.
