In our article on the 15th July, 2016 on this case (http://www.british-gazette.co.uk/2016/07/15/honey-rose-living-with-a-lie/) we suggested that Ms Rose would find herself settling down to life in one of Her Majesty’s “correctional institutions” as the Americans are fond of calling them! Unless, we said her barrister was on good form. Well, her counsel is worth every penny of his or her fee! Two years suspended is a remarkably light sentence given the lack of a guilty plea.
Returning to the case: How did Ms Rose come to make such a catastrophic mistake? Of course we can only speculate but would venture to suggest that Ms Rose might have been distracted by her patient. If Ms Rose was inexperienced, had had relatively little experience with children and had no children of her own, then it is possible that she was distracted to sufficient degree to cause the error. It is a fact that many children today are far more disruptive than their grandparents would have been children – as children then were not allowed to get away with as much.
