Warning: The above YouTube video contains material that will be deemed by some as being “politically incorrect” and sexist. Do I care? No.
The news that the board of Royal Dutch Shell have decided to abandon the dual domicile status of being both a Dutch and an English company and to become a solely English company is a piece of VERY GOOD NEWS!
However: It is not yet a “done deal” as at least three quarters of shareholders have to approve the move. You can bet your bottom Euro that Dutch shareholders and many living elsewhere in the EU will vote against the proposal!
Not only does the move make administrative and financial sense, it makes lobby sense as well.
The industry sector that is now derided by the Greenies as the “fossil fuel sector” needs as many friends and sympathisers as it can get! Insofar as the UK’s politicians are concerned this means the relative size of the business. The more tax and the more employees, the more the politicians take notice. This is why I have been suggesting that a merger take place between Royal Dutch Shell and BP. This brings us to one thing that will have to change should Shell’s shareholders approve the move a change of name. Since it will no longer be a Dutch company it cannot continue to call itself “Dutch” and neither can it have “Royal” in it’s name as this refers to the Dutch Royal family, not the British. Presumably the name may be just “Shell PLC” or maybe “Shell Group PLC.” We will wait and see.
