Spoiler Alert: Today’s blog-post will reveal the plot of the movie, “Amelia 2.0: The Summerland Project.”
I like Sci-Fi movies and have recently taken to viewing a few of them on YouTube.
The movie featured in today’s post (https://youtu.be/he1fq1AA2bE?si=dToXjdeluzvCbNq3) is of a young lady struck down in the prime of life by an aneurysm leaving her with the neurological “locked-in-syndrome”. The poor lady is in a hospital bed and after two years her body is deteriorating and death is inevitable.
A tech company gets the grieving husband to agree to give his wife a new chance of life by making an electronic/computer copy of her brain including her thoughts, emotions and memories and “consciousness”, recreating the lady in the form of an android that looks identical to her.
The tech company declares that thus given a new body that will not age, will not fall ill will give the lady a form of immortality.
Any person who would believe such nonsense clearly is the sort of person that believes that the UK can be run perfectly well with a National Grid using only wind turbines and photo-voltaic cells as the source of it’s electricity! Such persons of the male gender who have been educated in UK public schools would of course qualify for the “Upper Class Twit of the Year” competition (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Class_Twit_of_the_Year)!
Now it might very well be technically possible in a few years to produce what the movie has the tech company produce but what such a creation will NOT be is the person whose thoughts, emotions and memories and consciousness has been copied.
This can be demonstrated very easily!
Print the text of this blog-post on your printer Dear Reader. Then go to a place such as a local library or newsagent that offer a photocopy service and take a copy of the printed text. Now burn the sheet of paper that your printer produced. The photostat will look similar but it IS NOT the same!
I am seriously worried that there might be actual individuals stupid enough to fall for this nonsense!
They may be lured by commercial enterprises suggesting that alterations, improvements and modifications can be made to the new android body; so the customer can have the body and face they always desired! That of course will not age!
What will happen in reality will be that these idiots will be copied and euthanised!
The androids that take their place will not be able to eat or drink of course. Instead they will have to recharge their batteries each night! Or connect themselves to power packs presumably in haversacks on their backs if they wish to indulge in energetic pursuits!
Mr Elon Musk places great hope (for his company) in the “Tesla Bot” (https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/AI). I do not disagree. I foresee a future where humanoid robots will be mass produced in a huge scale and these constructions will replace many human beings in the workplace. Humans will still be necessary however for androids do not require food or wages – only electricity! In order to maintain the economy (and the lifestyle to which Mr Musk has become accustomed to) it will be necessary for human beings to remain as consumers!
Thus people will receive a universal basic income.
Of course the “Tesla Bot” and other machines such as Ameca (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameca_(robot)) are the first examples of androids.
Think of the first production version “Tesla Bot” as the equivalent of the IBM 1400 series computer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_1400_series) of the 1960s. The IBM z16™ is the latest iteration of the IBM Z® mainframe (https://www.ibm.com/products/z16) and has capabilities far in advance of it’s ancestor!
By the way, three decades is NOT a long time in human civilisation!
