Countering Terror.

The above video is of Centurion, a highly accurate missile being developed to counter the threat of such attacks. Amid what now appears to be a series of terror attacks in Europe with the unfolding events in Munich (including the attempted abduction/murder of an RAF airman the other day) there is hardly a spot in the world that seems safe from fanatical Muslim terrorists.
Here in Cornwall we have few Muslims but many ships ply their trade along our coast. Shipping as you know faces violent threats of it’s own. All will remember the terror attack on the United States Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG-67) on 12 October 2000, while it was in harbour and being refuelled in the Yemeni port of Aden. 17 American sailors were killed, and 39 were injured.
From the manufacturers: This new missile launcher could help naval ships defend against swarm boat tactics. Raytheon Company, acting through its Missile Systems business, and Chemring Group are finalizing plans to conduct a live missile firing of the multi-role CENTURION launcher at the Defense Training Estate on Salisbury Plain during the fourth quarter of 2013.“Our plan is to launch a missile to help prove our capability against a manoeuvring surface threat such as a fast, swarming attack craft,” said Rick Nelson, vice president of Raytheon Missile Systems’ Naval and Area Mission Defense product line. “Chemring’s CENTURION launcher, coupled with a number of Raytheon’s combat-tested missiles, brings an entirely new dimension to ship self-defence to provide a sea-based, inside-the-horizon platform protection system.”
And here is Lockheed Martin’s Hellfire anti-swarm missile. Sorry about the tacky animation.
