Could do better!

The phrase, “school report” does not have fond memories for your’s truly! It conjures up memories of parental disapproval. Had the teacher left his/her opinion and statement at a simple, “Could do better” – it would not have been so bad! However the teacher invariably added the three words; “if he tried!” That did it!

Today of course was the first “PMQs” of our brand new Dearly Beloved Prime Minister; the Right Honourable, Mary Elizabeth Truss the Member for South West Norfolk.

Unlike her predecessor who excelled in the area, presentation and quick-witted repartee is not Mrs O’Leary’s strong-point but she put up a creditable performance. Her problem lay in the script more than the delivery. Sir Keir Starmer kept returning to the issue of the windfall tax and the huge profits of the oil and gas companies and the huge cost of financing the subsidising of gas and electricity prices. His persistence would have earned the admiration and respect of any and all terriers had their respective masters/mistresses had the TV on at the time!

Throughout PMQs, the Rt. Hon. Lady doggedly (pun intended) kept to her guns and refused to concede the necessary use of a windfall tax – something acknowledged and understood by Mr Sunak her opponent.

In attacking the Tories over the windfall tax (lack of) the leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition of course avoided the nub of the issue – the cause of the problems in the first place! These are many and varied but they all centre around the issue of the so-called “climate change agenda” and the ridiculous policy of trying to reduce CO2 emissions!

Now readers may well draw attention to the war in Ukraine but the reason why Mr Putin’s actions are such a problem is that we in Europe (I am speaking geographically) have pursued ridiculous energy policies.

Of course insofar as these policies are concerned Labour and the Liberal Democrats are equally as culpable as the Tories!

Reversing course will not be easy! A whole generation of young people have been spoon fed from the tenderest years the idea that CO2 is heating up the planet and it is we humans who are mostly to blame! They honestly believe such nonsense.

The conventional advice to someone in a hole is to stop digging!
