Brexit: Die große Lüge.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
The above is one of the most well known quotes of the late and unlamented Joseph Goebbels. What is not so commonly known is his first use of it. He did in fact use “the big lie” as a criticism of Winston Churchill – before the exigencies of war caused him to extol his earlier criticism and state policy!
Goebbels wrote the following paragraph in an article dated 12 January 1941. The article, titled Aus Churchill’s Lügenfabrik (From Churchill’s Lie Factory) was published in Die Zeit ohne Beispiel:
“The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.”
Sixteen years earlier in Mein Kampf, the late and unlamented Adolf Hitler accused Germany’s Jews of dishonestly blaming General Erich Ludendorff for Germany’s defeat in the Great War. Of the Jews supposed dishonesty he wrote:
All this [campaign of lies] was inspired by the principle – which is quite true within itself – that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.
It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. Mein Kampf, vol. I, ch. X.
Of course, it is a given that Hitler was talking absolute bollocks when it came to blaming Germany’s defeat upon the Jews. But the question the British Gazette poses today is this: Could Messrs. Goebbels and Hitler be right about the Tories?
Ever since Madame Mayhem’s coronation – sorry election – to the Tory leadership and inter alia, the Prime Ministership, the British Gazette has sought to emulate Nellie in South Pacific and to be a “cockeyed optimist” on the issue of Madame Mayhem’s attitude, and that of the Tories generally on the issue of Brexit. That at some point the negotiations will head towards Flexcit, which of course is the only doable, practical Brexit strategy that will deliver what Madame Mayhem appeared to promise with her oft repeated mantra, “Brexit means Brexit.”
However, as time passes and the Article 50 countdown clock continues to tick relentlessly towards Brexit Day Friday, 29th March 2019, it appears increasingly possible that the “worst case scenario” for those of a patriotic disposition outlined in our article on Sunday (http://www.british-gazette.co.uk/2017/07/02/p-mv/) could come to pass.
In Sunday’s article we explained how what we have called “purgatory” will function. It bears repeating and a little more detail added.
The Tories are spouting about the “Great Repeal Act”. They state that this will patriate the entire body of EU law into British law which will necessitate a Henry VIII clause in order to allow ministers to effectively make law by Primary Legislation by Statutory Instrument.
Of course with dishonest persons it is vital to take note of what they omit to say as well as what they say for an untruth can be created by omission.
You see, as the learned Doctor Richard North has repeatedly pointed out, patriating the entire body of EU law will amount to less than a very small hill of beans IF THE EU DOES NOT RECOGNISE THIS!
Thus, for it to be effective, and to prevent the M2, M25 and M1 being turned into the world’s largest lorry (truck) park on April Fool’s Day 2019, the EU must recognise this and not to treat the UK as what it would have become, a “third country.”
Thus the Great Repeal Act will have to have an EU component. This will be a Treaty of Recognition. That is to say the Treaty will recognise that the UK has left the European Union BUT, using the Sovereign Power of the UK and NOT that of the EU, the UK will extend the competence of the entire body of EU law into the UK until such a time – that the UK government decided otherwise. It is very important to note that since the UK will have extended the competence of the EU using it’s own sovereign power, the UK will retain sole competence in this area. That is to say the government of the day will be able to end the effect of the entire body of EU law at a stroke by placing a Statutory Instrument before Parliament to that effect.
This is what will, must be, the so called “Transitional Arrangement”.
So what will the British – and Irish public – notice after Brexit Day?
Hopefully Nothing! Everything will appear to function as before!
Of course, things will have changed! Fundamentally!
The UK will no longer be represented in the European decision making processes.
The UK will have reduced itself to the status of a dependent territory of the European Union!
Napoleon Bonaparte and Kaiser Wilhelm II will be laughing in their graves!
Of course the UK will still be party to talks about the so called “comprehensive free trade agreement”. There will of course be no incentive for the EU to make any progress on this at all. Should a new government elected after 2022 wish to re-enter the EU on one level, it could not be easier. After all all that needs to be done is to repeal the Great Repeal Act and to terminate the Treaty of Recognition.
However: The Treaty of Lisbon states that ALL new EU members MUST join the Eurozone!
Thus should the UK government wish to reverse Brexit AFTER THE FACT, then Eurozone membership will be required!
For a Labour government coming to power after 5th May 2022 this would mean more austerity! Not less!
Thus the UK will be condemned to purgatory!
IF Madame Mayhem is aware of this then “Brexit means Brexit” is the most monstrous falsehood of the 21st Century and we have 83 years to go!
