Above, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from the Ottheinrich-Bibel (ca.1530-1532) illustrated by Matthias Gerung held in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek).
Verse 3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
Verse 4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
Amidst the brouhaha of the General Election Campaign 2017, reports concerning the world outside the Westminster bubble are getting through.
Wednesday 28th June 2017 will be the 103rd anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg in Sarajevo when they were shot dead by Gavrilo Princip.
We all know what happened next. We are still living with the consequences!
Today’s Guardian reports upon President Trump’s actions vis-à-vis the rising tensions in the Korean peninsular. The Americans are talking about not wanting regime change and offering all good things should North Korea give up their nuclear weapons.
In previous articles this organ has commented upon the dangers attached to misguided policy actions of British politicians vis-à-vis Brexit. We have pointed out that such actions could lead to a “Hard Brexit” and have sought to explain the drastic consequences of same. This was deeply worrying.
However the North Korean situation to which President Trump is reacting to is deeply frightening!
We would commend our readers to read an informative article in the US online organ, “Foreign Policy” by Andrei Lankov. GOTO: http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/04/26/kim-jong-un-is-a-survivor-not-a-madman/
What is clear is that Kim Jong Un’s priorities are:
1. Staying alive.
2. Staying in power.
3. Maintaining the means to stay in power.
Mr Kim is fully and completely aware that achieving objective 1 is entirely dependent on achieving objective 2 which in turn is entirely dependent on achieving objective 3!
What President Trump is offering by way of the abandonment of North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme and inter alia, opportunities for US firms to trade with his benighted patch of territory, is an invitation for him to commit suicide – and in a rather brutal and painful way at that!
We cannot stress enough just how DANGEROUS is the situation. Andrei Lankov accurately describes the situation in North Korea. However what he does not give sufficient emphasis to is that BOTH sides appear to be heading on a collision course!
By offering the concessions President Trump is doing what he should be doing. However, it is clear that were he to take the deal, North Korea’s despot would be signing his own death warrant!
THIS CANNOT END WELL.
Let us face FACTS: Wars start when one side manoeuvres (intentionally OR unintentionally) another side into a position where it feels it has no alternative but to fight! Sadly, human beings have NOT learned this lesson ever since the day when the Good Lord gave the Revelation to John of Patmos!
