A sign of the times?

Mr Patrick “Pat” Condell is a writer, polemicist, and former stand-up comedian. In his early career he wrote and performed in alternative comedy shows during the 1980s and 1990s in London, winning the Time Out Comedy Award in 1991. He was also formerly a regular panelist on BBC Radio 1’s Loose Talk programme.
In early 2007 he began uploading on to the internet short filmed monologue polemics primarily about religious authority, authoritarianism in government and left-wing politics, and the societal effects of Muslim immigration into Europe, which have appeared on many websites, including YouTube and LiveLeak. They have also been published on DVD, and also as a book of video transcripts. As of April 2016, Mr Condell’s YouTube channel has over a quarter of a million subscribers and 60 million views.
Because Mr Condell’s broadcast might be regarded by some Muslims as causing them distress as they feel the broadcast to be abusive and/or insulting, Mr Condell the Police may well regard the broadcast to constitute and offence under Section 31(1)(b) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (c.37) that creates the distinct offence of racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress were a person commits an offence under section 4A of the Public Order Act 1986.
By embedding Mr Condell’s broadcast, the British Gazette exposes the Editor to the same consequences. Doubtless your editor will soon receive a visit from Devon and Cornwall Police.
