Above, an example of “conspicuous consumption” taken to a grotesque level!

When I was a small boy in junior school, I and other pupils did – as children do – some silly things. One of these was to reverse our names and refer to each other by these “new names”. Mine was Retep Sregor and sometimes Retep Yrneh Sregor. I delighted that in my and the other boys opinions, it sounded “Balkan” – in other words from a strange and mysterious part of Europe behind the “Iron Curtain”! This “boy of mystery” was aided by the fact that ethnically I could easily pass for being “East European” – until I spoke!
The same would not have applied to the young Rishi Sunak, for although “Ihsir Kanus” could possibly appear to be from one of the Baltic States, Rishi Sunak would not pass for being an “East European”!
In other words, Mr Sunak can not appear to be anything other than what he is. Some commentators have suggested that his great wealth – and the even greater wealth of Mrs Sunak and greater wealth still of Mrs Sunak’s father – makes his occupancy of #10 Downing Street a “non starter”.
I would disagree.
True, when it comes to saying, “We are all in this together!” Mr Sunak is in a great deal of difficulty!
But I reject the politics of identity. It is often said that a man should not have a view on the subject of abortion as men cannot become pregnant.
NB: Members of the PC Brigade would argue with and take exception to the above statement!
What is clear is that of the two candidates Tories can vote for, one is relying on the Magic Money Tree and Unicorn Economics and the other is basing his strategy in reality. For a reasonable person I would suggest that there is NO CONTEST!!!!!!
That Mr Sunak used the bespoke tailor, Henry Herbert at 8 Lamb’s Conduit Passage,
London, WC1R 4RG (https://www.henryherbert.com/) and not the bespoke tailor, Henry Poole & Co at 15 Savile Row, London, W1S 3PJ (https://henrypoole.com/) is to his credit for doing so enables him to get the essentially the same garment but for a lot less money. The difference being of course that the label sewn into the inside of the “coat” (what we ordinary folk call “jacket” and bespoke tailors call “coat”) is not from a Savile Row tailor!
NB: A man of Mr Sunak’s means could easily go to Messrs. Poole and not Messrs. Herbert. Similarly, he could if he wished get his shoes made to measure from John Lobb at 88 Jermyn Street, London SW1Y 6JD (https://www.johnlobb.com/en_gb/); and looking at Mr Sunak’s choice of shirts he does not appear to frequent such as Turnbull & Asser at 71-72 Jermyn Street London SW1Y 6PF either (https://turnbullandasser.co.uk/)!
In other words, Mr Sunak is not the sort of chap who indulges in profligate and conspicuous consumption!
This should be good enough for all the Tories minded to take part in this election.
Some Tories may be thinking in terms of winning a record fifth term.
It ‘aint going to happen!!!!!!!!
Attempting to “Make it happen….” is clearly at the forefront of Mrs O’Leary’s mind! Her “game plan” appears to be:
#1: “Put through an “emergency budget” slashing taxes (of those most likely to vote Tory) and spend as much as she can get away with trying to ameliorate people’s heating bills.
#2: Respond to Sir Keir’s call that the Prime Minister should have put herself before all UK electors and not just those paid up members of the Tory party by accepting this and calling a General Election.
#3: Hope for a working majority!
Of course, a Tory majority would mean a second emergency budget to “resolve” the excess of the first emergency budget!
The best the Tories can hope for is to elect Mr Sunak as leader and hope for the best! Mr Sunak and his fellow Tories must face the electorate no later than Thursday 23rd January 2025!
Mr Sunak knows the score: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62440019
IF – and I am NOT – a Tory and Mr Sunak asked me for advice as to when to go to the country, I would suggest Thursday 23rd January 2025! This because the poorer the weather the more likely many of Labour’s voters will not bother to go and vote than those voting Tory.
What Mr Sunak and his fellow Tories need is time!
That is something that cannot be bought!
Why is so much made of the cost of suits worn by Rishi Sunak, I would be sacking my tailor if I had his, for providing suits made to look one size too small! Why is he wearing them, has no one in his family or his entourage noticed this fact, because a lot of people I know can’t understand why this man is so badly dressed! Mimicking Norman wisdom is not a good look for anyone in his position.
