As he reflects upon his situation, the man the world’s press will take great delight in calling Mr Mountbatten-Windsor will be forgiven for thinking that this is a fortnight the like of which he does not want to repeat! However, he will realise that such comfort is not heading his way.
The former Prince who is formally and legally barred from using his three peerages – see Dr. Allan Barton’s detailed explanation as why this is so (https://youtu.be/bkQ5svYXnY8). Dr. Barton – who styles himself “The Antiquary” has a website (https://theantiquary.online/).
His Majesty’s brother will be cognisant of these FACTS:
#1: As of the date of this blog-post, he has NOT been arrested, cautioned, charged or convicted of ANY offence relating to the allegations surrounding his conduct with the late Virginia Giuffre.
#2: The Metropolitan Police are looking into separate allegations about his past conduct in unrelated areas.
#3: That the present withholding from public release of what are called the “Epstein Files” in the USA has place a temporary block on possible additional allegations about his past conduct.
British Gazette comment: It is only a matter of time before the Epstein Files are released. When they are one can confidently predict that these allegations and possible additional allegations will haunt him. This controversy has yet to play out fully. That the British monarchy will continue to suffer reputational damage is unavoidable. Calls by those who label themselves Republicans will be buoyed up in their campaign for an elected head of state.
The vast majority of British Republicans are calling for a ceremonial presidency along the lines of the Republic of Ireland. The results of such a change are predictable, inevitable and unavoidable.
The UK already has partial experience of the effects in the form of the Police & Crime Commissioners. Readers will know that I used to be a member of UKIP. I recall that during the election campaigns for the police and crime commissioners, the UKIP candidates were invariably former police officers and in the campaign literature stressed that although they were standing under the UKIP banner, they saw their elected office as essentially apolitical stressing that policing in the UK must avoid politics. I did NOT notice such reticence from the candidates from the other parties.
If the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland becomes the Republic of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, the politicians at Westminster will undoubtedly copy and paste the system the Republic of Ireland has. This will likely result in the election of a politician like Ms Catherine Connolly (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_Connolly).
