The Lebanon of Europe?

“Lebanon, officially the Lebanese Republic, is a country in the Levant region of West Asia…..” So states (correctly) Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanon).

The Wikipedia article goes on to state: “Lebanon is a developing country, ranked 112th on the Human Development Index. It has been classified as a lower-middle-income country. The Lebanese liquidity crisis, coupled with nationwide corruption and disasters such as the 2020 Beirut explosion, precipitated the collapse of Lebanon’s currency and fomented political instability, widespread resource shortages, and high unemployment and poverty.”

Lebanon is a textbook example of the complete failure for it’s diverse “communities” to integrate and to live in peace.

It is thus that Doctor Richard North’s blog-post today (https://www.turbulenttimes.co.uk/news/front-page/politics-the-gaza-effect-2/) makes grim reading.

Furthermore, developments in President Trump’s Gulf War 3.0 given the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War (sorry, Special Military Operation) and possible turmoil in Hungary and Central Europe following the 2026 Hungarian parliamentary election on 12th April are foreboding.

Let us all hope that the summer of 2026 is nothing like that of 1914 and that the autumn of 2026 is nothing like that of 1939!

As for the title of today’s blog-post: Could the UK of 2046 begin to resemble the Lebanon of 2026?
