There is a saying; “a man should not wager that which he cannot afford to loose.”
Sometimes however, even the most cautious of men are forced into making a wager that their very being compels them to reject.
The above picture is a classic: the fictional character James Bond, 007. The classic handsome tough guy whom ladies swoon over. Here we have Commander Bond playing a high stakes game not just of roulette, but dealing with violent dangerous ne’er-do-wells ho intend to murder him!
Then we have the man below!
If one was to draw up a list of men who were most unlike the fictional 007, Keir Starmer – along with Moi – would be near the top of that list!
However, when he won the 2024 general election in July 2024, it turned out that he had drawn a short straw! He has been faced with a decision that only a few years ago would have deemed completely ridiculous: to send British soldiers to a NATO territory to ward off an attack from the USA!
And yet, that has just happened!
Is it a gamble?
You bet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keir Starmer, along with Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz, are hoping that this desperate throw of the dice will provide enough ammunition (of the strictly metaphorical kind) to enable the service chiefs in the Pentagon to dissuade, or in the worst case, help provide evidence at their courts martial, for their refusal to launch a military invasion of Greenland!
It IS a desperate gamble! A cautious strategy would be to restrict reaction to commentary (words) only and leave Greenland undefended by NATO personnel. This would enable an easier task for the US military as they would not have to face the awful prospect of fighting former allies. However, such a situation would make it less difficult for the MAGA firebrands who are behind this hair brained lunacy to put this into effect.
You see, there are other methods of discouraging the USA from continuing down this path. They are political and economic. The political path lies largely in the US Congress and the wider US political scene. The Democrats and many Republicans will be wholly opposed to an invasion of Greenland.
If they cannot reverse the policy before the November elections, they may well be able to do so after this.
This is the gamble that the Europeans are taking because the danger is that IF blood is split, the situation becomes much much worse.
The one thing we can ALL be sure of is this: They are cracking open the vodka in the Kremlin!
