British Gazette comment: The most likely outcome of this is either No Brexit and/or No Deal.
It looks now as this will happen in one of two ways:
#1: Those campaigning for a “People’s Vote” AKA a 2nd Referendum, will succeed and the voters will vote either for a No Deal Brexit or an Abortion of Brexit. If they vote for a No Deal Brexit there will be chaos and the EU will subsequently offer an “Emergency Re-entry” into the EU which will result in the UK joining the ERM prior to the Eurozone and probably joining the Schengen Area. If they vote for an Abortion of Brexit, Brexit will be cancelled but the UK will likely loose some or all of it’s opt-outs and rebate.
#2: Those campaigning for a “People’s Vote” AKA a 2nd Referendum, will fail and a No Deal Brexit occurs resulting in chaos with the EU will subsequently offer an “Emergency Re-entry” into the EU which will result in the UK joining the ERM prior to the Eurozone and probably joining the Schengen Area.
In other words: No Brexit!

Rather than an “Emergency Re-Entry” the more likely fudge would be an extension to the Article 50 two year period/duration. This is catered for in Article 50 itself and merely requires a unanimous decision from the 27 plus the UK.
