Mr President, is this a joke? Because our article of February 29 was!

The news that the 44th President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama II is to visit the UK in April to openly campaign in support of the EU Remainers has Dear Reader caused your Editor to be somewhat taken aback!
Herewith: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/eu-referendum-barack-obama-remain-campaign-brexit-europe-a6927731.html
The convention – that is generally but not universally adhered to – is for politicians NOT to become embroiled in the domestic politics of a friendly state. When such interventions do occur they are invariably of limited nature such as Mr Obama’s previous interjections into the Brexit debate – statements issued through a press officer. For a politician such as Obama with the authority of his office to intervene directly and “on the ground” – literally, “on the stump” is unprecedented!
On 29th February, this organ issued a light-hearted article (http://www.british-gazette.co.uk/2016/02/29/an-open-letter-to-the-british-people-from-the-honorable-barack-obama-president-of-the-united-states-of-america/) which had a serious message underlying it – namely that the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union is INTRICATELY connected to it’s relationship to the United States of America. In fact we can state that the UK’s membership of the EU lies at the very core of the so called “Special Relationship.” This is because had the UK not joined the EEC and were the UK to leave the EU, this supranational entity would rapidly develop into a coherent federal superstate under a Franco-German (less Franco and more German) leadership.
So we have to ask ourselves one question: HOW DO WE DEAL WITH THIS?
What we MUST NOT do is simply huff and puff and say “Mind your own bloody business!” Something we very much fear such as The Sun, the Daily Mail and the Daily Express will do.
The British Gazette will quote that wise old statesman Benjamin Disraeli later the Earl of Beaconsfield: “There are no permanent friends, only permanent interests.”
We MUST get the message home to the British People that the reason why President Obama is in the UK campaigning against Brexit is because it is in the interests of the USA for the UK to be in the EU.
Examine the following data:
EU (with UK): Population: 507.4 million GDP: US $18,527,116,000,000
EU (without UK): Population: 443.1 million GDP: US $15,577,077,000,000
USA: Population: 318.9 million GDP: US $17,348,075,000,000
As you can see the EU with the UK has a GDP that exceeds that of the USA. However, the EU with the Uk can never become a coherent super-state. However, without the UK it can and whilst it’s GDP would be marginally smaller than the USA’s such an entity would present a real challenge as an actual rival to the USA in world affairs. At the moment the USA is Primus inter pares at the moment – until China displaces it in the not too far distant future. Apart from China, no other power comes close to the USA in size and power – except the EU. It is the UK’s presence that effectively keeps the EU from being the potential super-power Jean Monet dreamed it would be!
To put it crudely: the UK is the saltpeter (potassium nitrate) for the EU whereas Brexit would for the EU serve as Viagra! Naturally, the USA wants to keep the EU dosed up on saltpeter!

  1. Obama is getting involved because he is following the Coudenhove-Kalergi Plan and is expecting the same award as Merkel and Rumpy-Pumpy have received for their efforts and making this plan happen.
