Britain's politicians: Eating humble pie.

A good rule of thumb for politicians is never comment on the internal political discourse of a foreign state.
Many politicians have a problem however. It is called Microphone mania. Microphone mania is an obsessive compulsion to talk into any microphone proffered to them by another. The condition is triggered when the person holding the microphone asks the sufferer a question or otherwise elicits a comment.
Mr Boris Johnson suffers from a very acute and chronic condition of the malady.
Unfortunately – for the UK – he occupies the position of Foreign & Commonwealth Secretary.
It was as Mayor of London that Mr Johnson made his critical comments about Mr Trump’s comments on migration, Muslims and terrorism. Given the multi-cultural, multi-faith and multi-racial constituency he had at the time such comments were understandable. They were still very foolish however. Mr Johnson had no pressing need to issue them.
The British Gazette has some advice and words of warning to the Tory government.
IF – and it is prudent to enter here a word of doubt – Mr Trump carries through into actions his campaign rhetoric vis-à-vis the Great Glow Bull Warning Scam – aka the climate change agenda – the howls of outrage from those promoting the “Green agenda” will make the present post election protests in the USA look like as the say there, “small potatoes!”
Mrs May may well remember the huge protests on the streets of London when Mr Tony Blair caused the country to follow Mr Bush’s ill fated adventure into Iraq in 2003.
Be in no doubt, no doubt whatsoever of the size of demonstrations that will accompany any serious backtracking or abandonment of “Green policies” aka “sustainable policies” vis-à-vis energy consumption, electrical power generation &C.
Huge amounts of money are being made by large numbers of well financed vested interests and you can be absolutely sure that these individuals, organisations and associations thereof will as an American would say, “scream like crazy”.
The other thing to bear at the very front of one’s mind is what the British Gazette has stated on numerous occasions in the past. That there are TWO types of individual involved in the Great Glow Bull Warning Scam. They are the innocent and the guilty. These are two mutually exclusive categories. The individuals are either one or the other. Being one by definition precludes the person from being the other. We can call the innocent fools. And the guilty fraudsters.
The other thing that it is MOST important to realise is this: The VAST majority of those promoting the Great Glow Bull Warning Scam are innocent fools. These are for the most part, honest well meaning people. Many are religiously motivated in the sense that they identify their political agitation as a way of bearing witness to their faith.
So what you have to realise is this: When these people say with passion and conviction that CO2 emissions are warning up the planet they believe it. These people may be spouting nonsense but they are NOT lying.
Then we have the numbers of these folk. Many are young as they have been brought up to believe this nonsense as FACT. Faced with seeing President Trump putting the kibosh of policies they genuinely and sincerely believe are “helping to save the planet” they will protest. In huge numbers as is the nature with the young who are passionate about things.
All of this is going to have consequences. We shall see a huge increase in the membership and support of the Green Party.
Of course, Mrs May will try to perform a balancing act. She will want to take advantage of the huge benefits that a reversal of the Green agenda will afford. Such actions will have to be aimed at the masses however. Lower energy bills will be a good start. However there is ONE policy that Mrs May would do well to consider. Car Tax.
At the moment, motor vehicles are taxed according to their CO2 output.
This means that some people on modest and low incomes fork out considerable sums each year to tax their second hand cars purchased for small amounts of money. This is in stark contrast to rich people paying very little by way of car tax for their up market hybrid vehicles.
This of course is a feature of Green Taxes. They tend to penalise the poor and benefit the rich.
It is an absolutely brilliant way of giving tax cuts to the rich without the opprobrium of taxing the poor!
If Mrs May was to instruct Mr Hammond to change the basis of car tax to bands based on a stated market value for the vehicle in question the tax would be seen as progressive and fair.
What is of speculative interest is the effect on the General Election in 2020 – or 2022 if there is a General Election in May 2017 – is the effect of the huge surge in support for Green Party candidates.
British Gazette readers well know how the First Past the Post electoral system treats third, fourth, fifth and sixth parties.
Not for nothing do the Americans call it “the two party system.”
What we could see is the pro-Green, anti Tory vote split three ways between the Greens, the Liberal Democrats and Labour. Each party could see a significant share of the popular vote and yet this would not be reflected in the numbers of seats gained in the Commons.
We live in interesting times.
