Another distinguished gentleman, The Honorable Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America has now arrived in this formerly sovereign country with the express intention of encouraging its voters to keep it a formerly sovereign country. It appears he has also come to wish Her Majesty the Queen a happy 90th birthday. The British Gazette feels constrained to advise him that Her Majesty’s birthday was yesterday, not today!
Of course the real reason for Mr Obama’s arrival in the UK is to “go on the stump” in favour of the Remain camp. Lord Ashdown made the telling point that the USA has 1.5 million reasons to feel justified in making it’s views known on the subject of Brexit. The 1.5 million being the USA’s war dead in the two European world wars. Interestingly, President Obama makes the EXACT SAME POINT in his article today!

However, we would wish to draw the Reader’s attention to statements contained in the article which are let us say breathtaking in their inaccuracy. President Obama starts off as he means to continue with the title of his article: “As your friend, let me say that the EU makes Britain even greater.”
In this article he writes an absolute howler! “The European Union doesn’t moderate British influence – it magnifies it.”
If this were not enough, the man goes onto compound this with: “ A strong Europe is not a threat to Britain’s global leadership; it enhances Britain’s global leadership. A strong Europe is not a threat to Britain’s global leadership; it enhances Britain’s global leadership.”
These are such monstrous “terminological inexactitudes” (to use Sir Winston Churchill’s famous phrase) that it behoves this organ to remind it’s readers and the US President of the late and unlamented Joseph Goebbels opinion about being “terminologically inexact!” Herewith:
Any further comments about “terminological inexactitudes” is clearly superfluous! As to the President’s most telling remark – it comes after the others: “The United States sees how your powerful voice in Europe ensures that Europe takes a strong stance in the world, and keeps the EU open, outward looking, and closely linked to its allies on the other side of the Atlantic. So the US and the world need your outsized influence to continue – including within Europe.”
For an effective translation of this sentence, replace the fourth word, “sees” with the word “wants” and delete the fifth word “how”. Delete the seventh word, “powerful” as it is meaningless flattery, insert the word “to” before the eleventh word, “ensures” and singularise to “ensure”. Replace the sixteenth word “strong” with the words “less coherent”. Replace words twenty two through twenty four (keeps the EU) with “allows an”. Delete the comma after the word “open” and delete the words twenty six and twenty seven “outward looking” and the comma after the word “looking” also deleting the twenty eight word “and” and replace with the words “door policy”. Delete the words forty four through to forty six “and the world” as it is an arrogant opinion and pluralise the forty seventh word “need”. Delete the forty ninth word “outsized” as it is meaningless flattery and delete the fifty third word “including”. The sentence will then reveal what President Obama and the US government really want! Thus:
“The United States WANTS your voice in Europe TO ensurE that Europe takes a LESS COHERENT stance in the world, and ALLOWS AN open DOOR POLICY closely linked to its allies on the other side of the Atlantic. So the US needS your influence to continue – within Europe.”
So there you have it: Just what the British Gazette has been telling it’s readers these past months!
