In our article of the 14th October last year (http://www.british-gazette.co.uk/2017/10/14/brexit-tempus-subsisto/), we speculated upon the outcome of the Brexit talks. Included was a suggestion that a second referendum might take place on Thursday 15th March 2018.
Clearly this has not happened!
However, given the apparent paralysis experienced by HMCG (Her Majesty’s Charade Government), excoriationally described in today’s blog-post by Doctor North (http://eureferendum.com/blogview.aspx?blogno=86801) the EU27 are going to be faced with a conundrum at the upcoming council meeting.
We would not be one bit surprised if the EU27 issue an ultimatum to Madame Mayhem – after all ’tis the season for ultimas!
It will likely constitute two things:
1. A statement that the EU27 is suspending talks indefinitely until such a time that the UK places “concrete proposals” on a way forward.
2. An offer to “stop the Article 50 clock”.
To activate the clock stop the UK would have to formally request such to the President of the European Council.
Because such will have the effect of amending, effecting or suspending statute, the requirements of the Declaration of Rights 1688 as ratified by the Bill of Rights 1689 requires the Crown (the “government” led by Madame) to seek the consent of Parliament for this.
If Madame is unwilling to put through a Bill to that effect we imagine that one of the Europhile opposition parties will see to do so. Mostly likely the SNP. If the Bill becomes an Act then Madame will be forced to make the request.
Brexit will therefore be suspended until further notice!
