Brexit: All change!

This is the time of year when people travel. Today, in the UK of 2019 we have sons and daughters, father’s and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers living many miles from each other. Yes, a few – a very few – families are in the same locale, but many many are spread right across the nation and indeed the world. This is a time of year when families travel to be together.
Now, the BG is not a religious blog. The internet has no shortage of such blogs and other such websites for those readers seeking such. However, it would be remiss to fail to point out the reason why Christ was born in a stable – his parents were travelling due to a census. So travelling is a big feature of Christmas – albeit for very different reasons from the first Christmas.
One of the features of UK Christmases these days is that it essentially becomes a winter holiday with the start on Christmas Eve and the finish the day after New Year’s Day. Indeed, the politically correct commissariat are trying to introduce us to “Winterval”.
A word of advice to these idiots: If you don’t want to keep Christmas, don’t! It is not compulsory. But – and this is in your own best interests – don’t try an actively and intentionally seek to suppress what some of the really religious would call the “Mass of Christ” – in an attempted display of “virtue signalling” to those of other faiths. It is not wanted – by them.
Returning to the main subject matter though – this is a time of year when folks meet up and look back to the year that has passed and forward to the year ahead. It must be said that there have been few Christmastides that are looking forward to such significant changes. Baring something totally unforeseen, the UK will cease to be a member of the European Union of the Cities and the Regions at 11PM GMT on Friday 31st January 2020.
It is interesting to note that on 31st January 1849 the Corn Laws were finally abolished.

As for the national discord between England and Scotland vis-à-vis Brexit it is further interesting to note that on 31st January 1919 what became known as “The Battle of George Square” took place in Glasgow.

~ Doctor North opines on the prospects that face us over the next Parliament. It is however firmly the opinion of the BG that matters will come to a head far sooner than December 2024!
The Buffoon has indicated that he does not wish to extend what is to be known as the transition period (aka “Purgatory”) after 31st December 2020. The Tories have clearly indicated that they wish to have a trading relationship with the EU that is outside the single market and do not wish to have a customs union with the EU.
Conventional wisdom has it that one cannot establish such a relationship in the next 379 days.
At this point all we can suggest is this: “Wait and see….”
