Those with an interest in astronomy may well have come across reports about 3I ATLAS (https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/comets/3i-atlas/). The BBC has reported (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx23g5jpj9go) on it.
3I/ATLAS is an interstellar object discovered on Tuesday, 1 July 2025. It is travelling at 135,000 mph and is expected to reach Earth’s vicinity between Friday, 21 November, 2025 and Friday, 5 December 2025.
Dr. Avi Loeb (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avi_Loeb) is of the opinion that 3I ATLAS MIGHT not be a natural object but an example of alien (ET) technology (https://avi-loeb.medium.com/the-elongated-image-of-3i-atlas-9613a4395772).
Now, as I have on more than one occasion have admitted (to climate change zealots) that I am not a scientist. I am not even a graduate. In fact I left school after taking my CSEs so I do not even have “A” levels!
The above admission will by Dr. Loeb’s sceptics cause them to state that I can contribute nothing to the debate!
However, I can and will. I can say this: The authorities know a LOT more about this object than they are allowing to be disclosed!
Based on the assumption that 3I ATLAS is an example of alien (ET) technology there has been morbid and doom laden speculation that it could be a death dealing asteroid to destroy human civilisation in a manner similar to that which caused the dinosaurs to become extinct. They suggest that when 3I ATLAS reaches it’s closest point to the Sun (when it will be directly behind the sun in relation to Earth) it might change course and speed towards Earth striking it. They point out the object would move so fast that we Earthlings would not be able to stop it.
Herewith the maths (math): The object is travelling at 135,000 mph. If whilst travelling behind the Sun, it changed course – as soon as the Sun’s disk caused it to be invisible to observers on Earth – towards the Sun to change course towards Earth it could use the Sun’s gravity to increase speed. To reach the vicinity of Earth on Friday, 31 October 2025 – Halloween – it would have to possess an averaged speed of 322,917 mph to cover the distance of two AU (Astronomical Units). However there would be no need to accelerate to such a speed. If the object was to change course and the increase in speed brought about by the Sun’s gravity would be offset by a decrease in speed to bring the object into the orbit of the Earth or alternatively the Moon, we are looking at 57 days from the Wednesday, 29 October 2025 which is Christmas Day – Thursday, 25 December 2025!
Given that we will only know of this once 3I ATLAS would have covered half the distance and would only have 1 AU to cover (93,000,000 miles) observers on Earth would discover 3I ATLAS heading towards us (or the Moon) on or around Wednesday, 26 November 2025!
Now, do I think that were 3I ATLAS of alien (ET) origin their aim would be to destroy humanity (and much of the life on Earth) be a supposed asteroid strike?
NO!
I ask this question: Why go to so much trouble?
Furthermore, there has to be a further FACT to be taken into consideration: 3I ATLAS may have been detected on Tuesday, 1 July 2025 but it can be said to have entered the Oort Cloud (the most distant, outermost boundary, defined by the Sun’s gravitational influence. It is a massive, theoretical spherical shell containing billions of comet-like bodies that orbit the Sun and serve as the source of long-period comets) some 8,000 years ago! Of course, that means that the object will have been travelling for far far longer – aeons! This would appear to argue against an artificial creation – unless of course the entities within the creation are examples of Artificial Intelligence that could – subject to sufficiently advanced technology to cope adequately with the passage of time.
The chances are that 3I ATLAS will pass through the solar system in 2026 and the vast bulk of humanity will be none the wiser!
