The UK 2016: It's official! Christians are to be persecuted! Again!

Above, Victoria Wasteney. Victoria Wasteney a senior occupational therapist employed by East London NHS Foundation Trust, was accused by her employer in 2014 of “harassing and bullying” a work friend for giving her a book about a Muslim woman’s encounter with Christianity, praying with her and asking her to church. She was suspended for nine months and given a written warning, even though the woman had been happy to discuss faith with her and never gave evidence about her allegations to the NHS. An employment tribunal decided in favour of the NHS who have now accused her of ‘grooming’ a Muslim colleague has sacked this Christian health service manager.

When the Muslim human-rights lawyer Mr Aamer Anwar urged calm in the Muslim community he received death threats which he (rightly) takes seriously. Mr Anwar despairs (rightly) that the violent sectarian politics that has brought about civil war in Pakistan is being rapidly imported into the UK.
To the authorities in the UK they are faced with a nightmare scenario and one they (and the British Gazette) can see no happy and/or peaceful ending to.
Thus it is that the Chameleon (a man who apparently has difficulty in distinguishing a unit trust from a Panamanian offshore company with bearer shares – the two entities have about as much in common as say, a giraffe and a hippopotamus) takes every opportunity to declare that “Islam is a religion of peace…”
As the British Gazette has pointed out to it’s readers in the past the British state has a well tried and trusted approach to such situations: that is “studied even handedness”. Of course, it is in the qualifying word “studied” that give the lie to the phrase “even handedness” as the policy is not even handed and is not intended to be! The policy is straightforward: Demonstrate to a particular problem community – a warlike African tribe for instance or in the present case an aggressive, assertive Conservative Islamic community – that they (the rulers) are taking an equally tough attitude towards other tribes – in the present case Christians – in an attempt to assuage the more moderate elements in order to keep these moderates “on side”. This tactic has worked on occasions in the past. Proof of this can be seen on old colonial maps of Africa and the famous “all red route” from the Nile delta to the Cape of Good Hope.
The only comfort we can offer Victoria Wasteney is the dubious one that is the realisation that she is not the only one persecuted! Mr Overd of Somerset is another.

Of course, the British were not the first to adopt this approach. Perhaps the most famous, or infamous case is that of Pontius Pilate, the 5th prefect of the Roman province of Judaea from AD 26–36 who asked the crowd who did they want released and who did they want crucified, Barabbas or Christ – and we know how that ended! Pontius Pilate did what he did for whilst he recognised the blamelessness of Christ, his concern was the repression of civil unrest.
Which of course brings us to the richest of ironies: Victoria Wasteney was merely seeking to help her friend understand that the sacrifice Christ made on the cross resulted in the taking away of the sin of the world.
