Above, two horses enjoying themselves. And not a Guardian reporter in sight!
Today would have been my late mother’s 95th birthday. Back in 1967 when she was 46 and I took my 11+ later that year, the “Swinging Sixties” was in full swing. One of my Christmas presents that year was a Beetles single – I forget which!
I do remember that Christmas Day evening party. There was a conversation about the future – by the grown ups – they were wondering how things would develop in the future generally. They were a little bothered how far the “Swinging Sixties” would go.
It has of course gone… but in ways that were not I think expected. There is a curious mixture of libertarian excess and an excess of a new form of puritanism at the same time.
The exhibitionism of Gay Pride marches is lauded and celebrated. Christian street preachers who liken such to Sodom and Gomorrah are promptly arrested under the Public Order Act. Yet when a heterosexual male engages in a little clumsy horse play with a female excoriation and demands for sanctions quickly follow.
As reported by the Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/jan/10/channel-seven-reporters-hug-of-weather-presenter-sparks-chris-gayle-comparisons?utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=GU+Today+main+NEW+H&utm_term=148903&subid=15907465&CMP=EMCNEWEML6619I2
There is a saying in the West Riding: “There’s nowt so queer as folk!”
Doubtless complaints about homophobia will follow!
