Amir Khan, WBA light-welterweight champion announces retirement in 5 years time.

The boxer, Mr. Amir Khan – pictured here following a visit to the Royal Navy’s base at Portsmouth – has announced he will quit boxing in five years time, at the age of 28. The Lancastrian (he hails from Bolton) is the current WBA light-welterweight champion and will defend his crown against Argentine Marcos Maidana in December. He told the BBC: “By the time I’m 28 that’s the time for me to hang my gloves up and stay with my family. I’m going to walk out of this sport the way I walked in and that’s what I want to tell other people who box. You don’t want to walk out of the sport brain dead.”
The British Gazette considers Mr. Kahn to have made the right decision. A concern this organ has is that the boxer’s next fight is to take place on 11th December at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas in the USA. Boxing injuries could be lessened if the judges made it clear that fights could be won on points as well as knock outs. US judges seem unwilling to award victories on points. For them a knockout is what they are looking for.
British Gazette readers may recall Mr. Kahn’s motoring conviction in October 2007. However they may not know that Mr. Kahn has spent £1 million of his own money on opening the Gloves Community Centre and boxing gym in Bolton to get youths off the streets. This young man is a credit to this country: unlike another Muslim gentleman whose continued presence in Lebanon is to be welcomed. This is one Omar Bakri Mohammad.
Mr Mohammad, who lives in exile in Lebanon after leaving Britain in 2005 has criticised Mr. Kahn for wearing Union Jack shorts in the boxing ring, stating: “He wears shorts with the Union Jack. That is a sin. He should not be wearing the flag because sovereignty is for God. His only allegiance should be to the Prophet Mohammed. So now for him to be wrapping himself in British flag is another sign of somebody who is completely ‘jahil’ (ignorant). You give him the excuse of ignorance for living among the kuffar (that is we non-Muslims). So you can’t call him kuffar but you can call him jahil and deviant person.”
Here is another of Mr. Mohammad’s pronouncements: “We don’t make a distinction between civilians and non-civilians, innocents and non-innocents. Only between Muslims and unbelievers. And the life of an unbeliever has no value. It has no sanctity.” Source: Attack on London ‘inevitable’, The Age, 19th April 2004.
What a nice man! Nice that is NOT to know! It seems that such as Mr. Mohammad has it in for the U.K. and the U.S.A. He is also of the opinion that all British and American women should wear the burka – whether or not they are Muslim. Well here are a couple of patriotic (UK/US & US) women – let us hope it serves to raise Mr. Mohammad’s blood pressure a little.
