It’s a well known phrase. Invented – so the original was in Ancient Greek – by Aesop (he of the fables)!
As well as known, a man (and a woman) is also judged by the same. Which can be unfair.
For better or for worse (and it increasingly appears to be the latter) for Mr Farage and his colleagues associated with Reform UK Limited fortunes appear to be linked to the fortune of Mr Trump.
Let us for a moment consider the company of men that Mr Trump keeps. They include such luminaries as Mr Witkoff (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Witkoff). Then there is Mr Kushner (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Kushner), Mr Trump’s son-in-law.
Now, here we come up against a big, big problem for Reform UK Limited: The British Public are according to opinion polls (https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/52766-where-do-britons-stand-on-ukraine-ahead-of-the-trump-putin-peace-meeting-in-alaska) and (https://www.ipsos.com/en-uk/britons-still-support-ukraine-uncertain-how-war-will-end-new-ipsos-poll-reveals-what-they-want-see) supportive of Ukraine and NOT Russia. NB: This happens to be reflected with the American Public – except that the core MAGA tend to support Russia.
IMHO, I reckon that 2026 will be a difficult year. For Ukraine, for Russia, for the EU and the UK.
Let us remember that 2026 will be the centenary of the UK’s General Strike. The strike lasted nine days, from 4 to 12 May 1926 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1926_United_Kingdom_general_strike).
Come May 2026 the northern winter will be over and spring will have arrived. I reckon that Europe will be a different place by then. In November 2026 the USA have their “mid term” elections. Events that will have occurred in Europe earlier will undoubtedly have an effect.
FACT: Politically, the next UK general election and 2029 are a long time in the future!
