My friend Doctor Richard North has posted a very sombre appraisal of the situation vis-à-vis the present conflict in Europe (https://www.turbulenttimes.co.uk/news/front-page/defence-the-path-to-war/).
This situation that in October 2024 was bad but has been made immeasurably worse by the election result in the US Presidential election in November 2024.
Aggravating factors of note:
– Western European NATO members taking advantage of the US defence shield that enabled them to reduce defence expenditures after the collapse of the USSR in 1991.
– Countries like Spain who refuse to make significant uplifts to their defence expenditure.
– Democratic PC Politicians making “Hitler’s Mistake” – thinking they know how to organise a military force and fight a war better than their professional general staffs. I’m thinking of having women serving alongside men.
– US voters – understandably – forming the opinion that more of their taxes go on defence than do the taxes of Europeans, whilst at the same time, Europeans are provided with taxpayer funded healthcare whilst they have to pay heavily for their insurance based healthcare.
There are more examples!
Of course, Mr Putin knows this and is exploiting these divisions!
This is a very bad situation! That has been made immeasurably worse by the political strategy being pursued by the current POTUS and his colleagues!
When one is in an open boat in a turbulent sea, the last thing you need is one or more of the occupants causing the boat to rock from side to side causing it to ship water!
