Policy change: Replace the “comfy chair” with an uncomfy chair!

For many of those of us over a certain age, Monty Python is a memorable part of our past. In conversation we will recall particular sketches from decades ago. Memorable ones include the “Dead Parrot” sketch, the “Silly Walks” sketch and the “Spanish Inquisition” (https://youtu.be/D5Df191WJ3o) sketch.

Monty Python existed in a world devoid of mobile (cell) phones and the internet. It was a world where the telephone and telex machines were supreme and computers were huge mainframe entities with less processing capability and data storage capacity than the average smart phone today.

And yet…. The UK had the Civil Service and the associated “establishment”.

Some things do not change!

The Unfortunate Right Honourable Liz Truss, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (6 September – 25 October 2022) bemoaned (justifiably) about the resistance she and her fellow ministers faced implementing their policies by the civil service and quango establishment.

Today the civil service and quango establishment have reassessed the situation and have come to the conclusion that come the next general election Reform UK Limited could form a majority government and that the King will ask Nigel Farage to form a government.

The evidence? Reports like this from the British Bamboozling Collective (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yk4r5e514o)!

Unfortunately, their plans for an orderly change of government might be overtaken by events.

IF current political trends continue the local elections of May 2026 will produce disastrous results for the Conservatives and Labour and result in colossal gains for Reform UK Limited. These results might give enough momentum to propel Reform UK Limited into government whenever Two Tier Keir or his replacement decides to go to the country. Conventional wisdom has it that a condemned man does not run to the gallows!

The civil service and quango establishment will devote their time and energies in seeking to dilute and mitigate the policies espoused by Reform UK Limited. In return they will offer the newbie MPs co-operation and a relatively easy life. The mass media – in particular the BBC – will adopt a less caustic attitude, the idea being to draw Reform UK Limited members into the morass of UK mainstream politics!

In particular a very large olive branch will be the preparedness to create hundreds of Reform UK Limited supporting life peers! These will likely include those parliamentary candidates who were not elected and persons matching the 21st Century descriptor, “internet influencers”.

So….

Are you likely to read about Lord Rogers of Caradon?

No!
