Wanting the Nobel Peace Prize!

Notwithstanding the FACT that the British Broadcasting Corporation has morphed into the Bamboozling Broadcasting Commissariat, it’s coverage on the meeting between presidents Trump & Putin in the former Russian America (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cjdy185j90et) is welcome.

What is unwelcome is the prospect of an imposed “peace” on Ukraine that leaves it ceding territory for what in international law will be an international agreement and outside NATO but with the dubious assurances of “security guarantees”.

Were this to take place it would be unacceptable for it would effectively be a copy and paste of the 1938 Munich agreement that forced Czechoslovakia to cede the Sudetenland to Germany only to have the Germans invade a year later!

For an actual peace treaty to be effected it would have to be ratified not only by Russia and Ukraine but also ALL NATO member states who would act as the guarantors and that the treaty would allow for Ukraine to join NATO subsequent to the treaty coming into effect.

IF the price for such a treaty is for Ukraine to ceded territory to Russia than that would be a necessary evil.

Such a treaty would reward Russia for her aggression but it would have had a very high cost in terms of men and materiel and would result in NATO’s boundaries being moved far to the east.

IF President Trump can negotiate this presenting President Zelensky it as a fait accompli, then President Zelenski should recommend it’s acceptance to his fellow countrymen.

IF President Trump can achieve a peace that is subject to a ratified peace treaty that allows and succeeds in a post settlement rump Ukraine in becoming a NATO member then he will have earned the Nobel Peace prize.
