Reading the BBC’s report (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyek73ly70o) on Peter, Lord Mandelson (not Lord Peter Mandelson) and the life peer’s reappraisal of his opinion about Mr Trump:
“The president is a nice person, is a fair-minded person, and that’s why I feel quite confident that, when as I say he does look at my credentials he’ll think ‘right, I think this guy could work well for both our countries and our special relationship’.”
I am quite simply somewhat perplexed!
When Lord Mandelson opines that Mr Trump could be “one of the most consequential” US presidents – I have to agree!
Let us face FACTS:
It is NOT beyond the realms of possibility that Mr Trump might order airborne troops of the US Army and US Marines to secure the capital of Greenland (population 56,421 [2021]) and it’s major settlement Nuuk (population 19,872 [2024]).
It is also NOT beyond the realms of possibility that Mr Trump might order an occupation of the Panama Canal zone with the intention of securing control of the canal.
IF US troops occupy Nuuk and the US declares an annexation of Greenland, NATO ceases to exist at that point. NATO will be as dead as the parrot in that famous Monty Python sketch!
The NATO country MOST affected by this will strangely enough NOT be Denmark (Greenland’s colonial power) but Canada! Canada has two land borders with the USA and is intricately linked to the USA.
We have entered uncharted territory!
