An American’s Dream……….

The above political map of North America shows the USA (an expanded USA with the provinces of the Great Lakes and the East Coast forming the remnant/rump Canada in black) as some imagine Mr Trump might like to see as he retires from the presidency after two terms on Saturday January 20, 2029.

The consensus of Liberal/Left political opinion is that Mr Trump’s dream of acquiring Greenland for the USA is a non starter and to quote the Danish Prime when Mr Trump first suggested purchase as “absurd”.

Thesame PM has now to readdress the same man with the same issue: https://www.politico.eu/article/greenland-not-for-sale-danish-pm-mette-frederiksen-us-donald-trump-jr/inister

Danish blogger Anders Puck Nielsen gives his opinion (https://youtu.be/GlK3f1cs_l4?si=EJ-C9_0WiWeM9qxk) as to why Mr Trump can’t buy Greenland.

Mr Steven Forbes however is of a different opinion (https://youtu.be/4rsb0QDGfFo?si=WP1-xKHkUx5m-63m) and suggests that here’s the way for President Trump to get Greenland.

Mr Forbes is correct in describing the practicalities and legalities of the situation. I would suggest that if the USA wishes to see Greenland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland) become a state of their union it will cost the already hard pressed US taxpayer even more. In 2022, Greenland’s population was estimated to be 56,583 people. Were the USA to offer each Greenlander (man, woman, child) US$ 1 million it would cost the US Treasury US $56.583 billion (NB: US$ is circa £ 0.81 / €0.97).

IMHO, US $2 million is a more credible offer in which case it will cost the US Treasury US $113.166 billion.

Mr Trump’s territorial ambitions however might extend further than Greenland. Mr Trump is keen for the USA to take control of the North West Passage which could well become increasingly feasible as a navigable passage in during the summer months. Thus I can imagine Mr Trump scheming to acquire the Canadian provinces of Manitoba (MB), Saskatchewan (SK), Alberta (AB), British Columbia (BC) along with the territories of Yukon (YT), Northwest Territories (NT) and Nunavut (NU).

Our UK readers may very well ask, “Why would Canadians living in the above mentioned provinces and territories possibly wish to join the USA?”

That is a very good question!

The answer is that the above mentioned provinces and territories is where a vast quantity of valuable minerals and resources lie. These sparsely populated provinces and territories can be said to be the Canada geese that lay the golden eggs the Canadian Treasury use to spend on the generous public spending programmes that Canadians living in the populous provinces of Ontario (ON), Quebec (QC), Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Nova Scotia (NS), New Brunswick (NB) and Prince Edward Island (PE) enjoy!

There is quite a demarcation in terms of political voting patterns betwixt these two groups with

Justin Trudeau the outgoing Prime Minister of Canada’s party picking up most of it’s votes in the populous provinces.

Here is a map of Canada showing its 10 provinces and 3 territories (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_and_territories_of_Canada).

Of course, if Mr Trump offers Greenland and the provinces and territories of Canada statehood, I can imagine that the existing inhabited territories of the United States; American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands would seek the same elevated status.

This would mean that the USA would end up with 69 states and thus stars on “Old Glory”.

Some might conclude that the Republican’s opponents the Democrats would deplore this land grab. Far from it. This because Democrats would conclude (correctly) that the new US voters in these new states were far more likely to vote for them than for the Republicans. Doubtless Mr Trump is aware of this as well. However Mr Trump will wish to go down in history as a great American president and may be of the opinion that he will be judge like Roman emperors with rulers such as Julius Caesar and Trajan and Tiberius who added to Rome’s possessions and conquests.

IF Two Tier Keir remains in office until 2029 he will have presided over a turbulent times in British and world politics!
