Today’s title are the words that were oft spoken to me by both my parents when I was a child impatiently waiting for something to happen. Both were amateur singers (that is how they met) and delivered the words half singing half speaking.
These words constitute the strong advice I would give to ANY UK politician contemplating saying anything on the subject and wondering what to do on Wednesday 9th November 2022!
At the bottom of this blog-post there are two hypertext links to two online US mainstream media outlets, CNN and NBC.
So far was we on this side of the pond are concerned the results are very very important whatever the US voters decide.
It MIGHT be the case that the Republicans “take the House” (meaning securing a majority of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives) and taking the Senate (meaning securing a majority of the 100 seats in that chamber).
IF the Republicans secure a majority in both chambers the US President will be referred (by many US commentators) as a “lame duck president”. This because as the late Alistair Cooke KBE was so fond of reminding us (the UK radio audience) “……the President proposes, Congress disposes……”
President Biden MIGHT take this opportunity to retire as POTUS on the grounds of ill health. There has been much speculation about President Biden’s health and what is quite clear is that he is NOT the man he used to be!
Personally, based upon what I have seen in the TV broadcast, I think it is cruel for any Democratic politician to ask that Mr Biden stay on as President simply to avoid the party becoming less popular / more unpopular by having the Vice President Kamala Harris take over as the 47th President of the United States.
Remember there will be two men in particular who will also be watching and waiting. These being President Putin of Russia and President Xi of China!
From the vantage point of the UK government the retirement of President Biden and the coming to office of President Harris is mostly going to be (I think) a curate’s egg – good in parts.
From her statements Kamala Harris appears to be an enthusiastic follower of the Woke Agenda and also the Climate Change Agenda. This of course will encourage all wokeists and climate change alarmists in the UK! It is also likely to encourage First Minister Sturgeon to push beyond the actual boundaries of her office and seek to meet and discuss matters with the new POTUS!
Whilst many in the UK will view President Harris with horror, the BG is likely to take a more sanguine view. Why? Because the chief impediment that prevented a good working relationship between the UK and the USA during the Biden administration was Biden’s anti British / pro Irish nationalist point of view. President Biden would have been far more assertive and critical were it not for the pleadings of his advisers and the US State Department. This will not likely be such an issue (if at all) with President Harris.
This means that the UK government can move ahead dealing with the protocol issue insofar as Northern Ireland is concerned. The one government who will really regret loosing President Biden will of course be that of the Irish Republic!
Funnily enough, the EU is not going to be too upset as it has been the Irish who have been in the driving seat on this issue.
One of the things that ALL politicians should take note of (and most do) is the calendar! By this I means that Thursday 17th November comes nine days after Tuesday 8th November!

I make the following speculation: Should President Biden retire, the US constitution dictates that the Vice President becomes POTUS. This means Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris will more than likely realise that her poll ratings with the US voters are not as she would like and that she is likely not to be re-elected as US President in 2024. In fact, it might well be the case that the Democratic Party could deliver the most humiliating thing that a 1st Term US President could have and that is their party choosing another candidate!
The other thing is that with the loss of control the Republicans may move against Biden and seek to remove him of the grounds of ill health, thus forcing the issue.
Should Kamala Harris become POTUS then she faces the danger of the Republicans impeaching her. However she may prove an asset for them much in the same was as Comrade Corbyn proved such an asset to the Tories!
Wishing to stay in office Mrs Harris (she will of course like the trappings of office and the chance to travel round the world as POTUS) may seek ways to discourage her party replacing her. One way to stay in office is to place someone who is in the position as your replacement who is even less suitable and/or more unpopular than them. Such as Meghan Markle!
