Brexit: Democracy Disabled.

Often, when you are prosecuting counsel in a fraud trail, one of the things you have to do is to demonstrate to the jury that the defendant’s scheme was not and never could be genuine. That the property never existed and importantly, that the defendant knew that!
Similarly, in government and politics, a choice MUST be capable of being exercised.
Not only that, but a choice not only should exist, it should be properly described AND viable.
Thus, were a person, such as Mr Gerard Batten to suggest to Mr Willie Walsh, CEO of International Consolidated Airlines Group, S.A., (IAG) the Anglo-Spanish multinational airline group that, rather than purchase a number of new Boeing 747-8 aircraft with the standard four General Electric Genx-1B70 dual rotor, axial flow, high-bypass turbofan jet engines, each developing 69,800 lbf (310 kN) for a total of 279,200 lbf (1,240 kN) of thrust, a lot of money could be saved were Mr Walsh to specify four smaller and more economical Rolls-Royce BR715 turbofans each capable of generating a thrust of 21,500lb (96 kN). This would be ridiculous for the Boeing 747-8 aircraft would be unable to safely take off with engines that could only produce a total of 86,000 lbF (384 kN). Ignoring the fact that the aircraft could never obtain an airworthiness certificate, if a pilot was so stupid to try and take off in such an aircraft, there is no runway on the planet long enough to enable the aircraft to achieve sufficient speed to get off the ground!
Similarly, Madame’s “cake and eat it” fantasy Brexit Deal outlined at Lancaster House could never have worked. Neither could the her “there is and there isn’t” border (using magical technology) betwixt Northern Ireland and the republic!
With the prospect of a dénouement to her Brexit Deal in 8 days, Madame Mayhem appears to be facing an impasse: that Parliament has voted down (possibly by a significant margin) her Brexit Deal; the EU has already indicated that no other option is on the table; and a No Deal Brexit awaits – for in another 109 days Brexit Day will have arrived!
What we will have witnessed in the 901 days between Midsummer’s Day 2016 and the 11th December 2018 is either an insidious conspiracy to hijack Brexit OR an incompetent cabal of halfwits attempting to negotiating Brexit that has brought the country to the brink of ruin.
The question is this: Which is it? Conspiracy or Cock-up?
One thing we can be sure about: Nobody – with the possible exception of Mr Aaron Banks – will end up in the dock at the Old Bailey!
For myself, I am edging towards it being a conspiracy more than a cock-up. Things seem to be steadily falling into place, a statement here and a statement there. We know that Parliament has a Remainer majority. We know that a “No Deal Brexit” will be catastrophic. Thus in a curious unspoken way a nexus had formed between “the Ultras” such as Jacob Ress-Mogg for whom a NDB would spell the end of his political career and possibly deeply damage his business career and Remainer Chuka Umunna, Leader of the People’s Vote campaign.
We know that the EU do not want the UK to leave. And it is not just about the money. The UK is one of the largest economies in the EU. The EU’s strength – in terms of the influence it has in trade negotiations – is in direct proportion to the size of it’s aggregated economy. Then there is the FACT that, contrary to the views of Remainiacs – aka Lib-Dems – the UK is a valued member because it’s authorities actually enforce EU Regulations and Directives to the letter unlike certain other EU member states!

We also know that if the referendum had been carried out on Thursday 23rd June 2022 – half a dozen years later, the result would likely have been reversed. This because many voters who voted Leave will have died by then and many young people who were aged between 12 and 17 in 2016 will be able to vote in 2022.
Not only that but we know the EU “has form” when it comes to referendum results they don’t like!
In other words – expect a Second Referendum!
