Above, Haslar Creek, outside Gosport, Hampshire – the actual “Shit Creek” as in “Up the Creek” – with or without a paddle!
The Indy has reported that the European Parliament has decided that insufficient progress has been made to move to “Phase Two”.

The resolution was backed by 557 MEPs sitting in Strasbourg, with just 92 voting against and 29 abstentions.
British Gazette comment: Commentators – other than this organ – have used various metaphors to describe a “No Deal Brexit”. “Train crash”, “car crash”, “falling off a cliff”. Another has used the ill-fated RMS Titanic that sank in the North Atlantic in the early morning hours of Monday, 15th April 1912. By a strange co-incidence, the 15th of April 2019 will again occur on a Monday, a fortnight after Monday 1st April 2019 – the first working day post Brexit.
Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard the ship, and more than 1,500 died. The whole disaster was one caused by multiple human errors. Poor navigation and watch keeping resulted in striking the iceberg, poor construction and poor boiler room procedures brought about the rapid foundering and incompetent provision of inadequate numbers of lifeboats along with poor emergency procedures resulted in the huge death toll.
The Titanic disaster was of course a major tragedy of the day and it has resulted in books, films and plays ever since. Be under no doubt, no doubt whatsoever that a “crash Brexit” will be the major event in the first part of the 21st Century in Britain when the history books are written. We are living through a period of history such as the South Sea Company bubble bursting of August 1721.
To return to the Titanic analogy, it is as if a group of passengers thinking the ship was unsinkable, continued playing cards in the First Class Saloon (well we do have a Tory government!) until it was too late.
